What is it?
The Academy of Management is the largest and most prestigious academic association in the field of management. It has 10,000 members and publishes three of the top journals in management. The Academy of Management plays a major role in shaping standards and expectations for management faculty. Its annual meeting, attracting 5,000 people, is the marketplace for recruiting faculty.
How is CHRMS Involved?
For the past five years, CHRMS has been taking an expanded leadership role in opening the Academy to practice and practitioners. This year, CHRMS has taken on an even more comprehensive and important function. The Pre-Conference Practitioners Series consisted of 7 simultaneous collaborative research projects that were developed during the two-day workshop at which many of the FDU faculty at CHRMS held substantial facilitator roles. The recently-held 1998 Series involved the participated of 100 executive, academics, and consultants.
What is the Eastern Academy of Management?
The Eastern Academy of Management, a regional division of the Academy of Management, is having its 36th Annual Meeting this year. The program theme of this year's meeting is titles "The Life-Giving Workplace". The Faculty and staff at CHRMS view the incorporation of "Life-Giving" aspects of work into corporate strategies as an extremely important objective condition. Two FDU/CHRMS faculty members have significant roles at the Eastern Academy: Joel Harmon as the Vice President of Programs and Drew Harris as a 1999 theme coordinator. Dan Twomey, the Director of CHRMS, is in charge of the Eastern Academy of Management's Academic-Practitioner Collaboration.
