The curriculum for the MBA in human resource management and the Post-Graduate
Certificate in HRM has been designed in collaboration with Human Resource
Executives from Corporate Partner companies.

MBA in Human Resource Management - The HRM/MBA is a graduate
program leading to the Master of Business Administration degree in Human
Resource Management. It includes the basic subjects offered in a traditional
MBA curriculum, as well as a core of five HR courses designed to meet the
specialized needs of today's managers of people. In addition, students
can tailor their studies to particular career interests through elective
courses.
Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management - The
Post-Graduate Certificate offers focused studies in human resource management
for the individual who holds an MBA degree. This 15-credit program of study
is built around the five core courses comprising the HRM major.
Joint Degree Program: Human Resource Management/MBA (HRM/MBA) plus
an Industrial Psychology (MA) - The HRM/MBA includes the general subjects
offered in the MBA curriculum, as well as a core of human resource management
courses. The Masters of Arts degree in Industrial Psychology is a graduate
program designed to provide a comprehensive, research-oriented background
in applied psychology appropriate to the industrial/organizational context.
The joint degree program offers cross-cutting themes in course work, including
the globalization of the marketplace, ethical considerations and human
resource's role in responding to changing technologies and demographics.
Core Courses in Human Resource Management:
Strategic Human Resource Management (MGMT6621)
Strategic human resource management focuses on the new strategic and
expanded role of the HR professional emphasizing the integration of human
resource management activities throughout the organization. Subject topics
include:
- The strategic role of human resources in a global business.
- Linking human resource functions to business success.
- Linking human resource planning to strategic business planning.
The Legal Aspects of Workforce Management (MGMT6620)
An overview of the legal aspects of HR managment, focusing on the integration
of the law into strategic decision-making. Subject topics include:
- The impact of employment laws on the role of managers and on the
strategic objectives of the company.
- The interrelationship between the management of employees, the goals
of the company and compliance with the law.
- Review current changes in federal, state and local laws applying
to HR functions.
Training and Developing a Diverse Workforce (MGMT6622)
An emphasis on the need for staff training, retraining and career management
within the industry which has been created by changing demographics and
technological innovation. Subject topics include:
- Cultural, racial and ethnic differences of employee/stakeholders.
- Manage diversity in a global setting.
- Select adult learning processes for designing diversity training.
- Diversity programs in local companies.
- Action, applied and continuous learning.
Managing Change (MGMT6633)
A skills development workshop designed to enable human resource managers
and general managers to function as catalysts of change and empowerment
in their organizations. Subject topics and skills include:
- Organization concepts, theory and application.
- Dynamics of organization change.
- Managerial interventions for improving interpersonal and group communication,
problem solving, and conflict management.
Field Analysis of Performance Systems and Strategic Management
(MGMT6693)
On-site field work exploring the role of the human resource managers
as an integral member of the management team. Subject topics and skills
include:
- Research Skills: benchmarking, data collection instruments, databases,
data analysis, interpret findings.
- Project Management Skills: develop and carry out a project.
- Consulting Skills: enroll people in a project and negotiate ongoing
issues.
- Team Skills and Presentation Skills: write and present the results
of projects.
