Executive/Scholars:
What is it?
Executive/Scholars was created for the purpose of offering outstanding
students from the FDU college of Business Administratration a unique opportunity
to improve skills needed to successfully make the transition from life
as a student to life in the business world. It also enables the student
to understand the various disciplines and become better aware of the jobs
in their fields of interest.
History:
In 1989 Dr. Richard N. Ottaway founded this undergraduate program.
Heading into its eleventh academic year, the Executive/Scholars program
provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate participants to:
- Explore various jobs in the business world so the student can better
work possibilities with his/her aptitudes, interests and abilities.
- Improve resume and develop interviewing and networking skills.
- Examine the link between academic knowledge and real business situations
through discussions and career planning sessions.
What else is offered?
This program pairs each student with an executive at participating
corporation. Companies include: AT&T, Schering-Plough, American
Home Products, GPU, and Summit Bank, just to name a few. Students
are able to attend monthly breakfast seminars with executives and paired
with an executive for a five day project in a corporate setting.
Admittance Standards:
To be eligible a student must be a full-time junior in the College
of Business Administration on the Madison campus, with a minimum GPA of
3.0 and an expected graduation date of no sooner than December 1999.
CHRMS Involvement:
Since 1993 Mr. Jerry Dawson, the Executive Director of CHRMS, has been
the advisor for the Executive/Scholars Program. A CHRMS Graduate Assistant
works with Jerry to manage the program each new academic year.
