Building A High Performance Organization: The Role of Human Resources

Ms. Kerr summarizes how Lucent has addressed the issues surrounding performance management systems in order to promote high performance employees.  Lucent has recognized the need to measure both results and behaviors within its reward and recognition systems.  As a result, Lucent has redesigned their HR systems around five key elements: Growth Mindset, Results Focus, Obsession with Customers and About Competitiors, Workplace that is Open, Supportive and Diverse, and Speed.

To Go Purposely Into the Unknown

Dr.Twomey outlines the need to develop a new academic-practitioner relaionship.  Universities and businesses need to explore new ways if relating and inquiring into business problems.

Corporate Partner Strategy Sessions

Countdown to the Millennium: CHRMS Breakfast Seminar Series Fall 1999
 
In keeping with the CHRMS mission to create a learning environment among education, industry, and the community, the Breakfast Seminar Series provided four high profile speakers during the fall.  The presenters included:

    * Dr. Mirian M. Graddick, Executive Vice President of Human Resources, AT&T
    * Mr. Tom Brown, author of "Fiscal Fairy Tales" and Principal of Management General, Ms. Beverly Goldberg,
       Vice President of the Century Foundation and Siberg Associates, and Donna Martin, HR Head of Global
        Pharmaceutical Operations, Pharmacia & Upjohn
    * Mr. Harold W. Burlingame, Executive Vice President, Merger and Joint Venture, AT&T

CHRMS Distinguished Executive Fellows

Ronan Campion, retired Human Resource Director at AT&T, Al Gesler, retired Human Resource Director at AlliedSignal, and Jeana Wirtenberg, Director of Development, Quality and Organization Effectiveness at PSE&G were recognized as new CHRMS Distinguished Executive fellows.

The Ninth Annual All-Partner Family Picnic

CHRMS held its Ninth Annual All-Partner Picnice on September 12, 1999 with over 120 guests enjoying the festivities.

Mentoring for Human Resource Management MBA's

Ronan Campion, Executive-in Residence at CHRMS, provides mentoring sessions with students and prospective students to better understand the new world that awaits them in the field of Human Resource Management.

The Graduate Assistants at CHRMS

The article introduces the five graduate assistants for 1999-2000 academic year.  The graduate assistants are Celia Collins, Anthony Cuccio, Dave Mason, Maria Vesleme, and Aygul Zaripova.

Dan Kowalski's Reflections on The Academy of Management's Practitioner Series

Dan Kowalski discusses the various action research projects that the CHRMS group has contributed over the years with the Academy of Management.  The group's effort has led an expanding initiative for integrating scholarship and practice at the Academy of Management.

CHRMS Partner Companies Honored

PSE&G and Organon were recently honored with "Healthy Workplace" awards by the New Jersey Psychological Association.

A Joint Venture: Corporate Sponsors & HRM/MBA Students Team-Up

Laura Kazanchy, former CHRMS Graduate Assistant, discusses how the "Field Analysis" capstone course for the HRM/MBA Program provides real value to corporations as well as the students.  The joint venture allows both parties to gain knowledge and expertise, discover new perspectives, and develop new process and/or solutions.
