Create Interactive Lectures with MS PowerPoint:
This workshop will teach you to transform your ideas into professional and compelling presentations using Microsoft’s PowerPoint. You will learn how to create slides that will be joined to form an electronic slide show. More advanced features that will be covered include creating a presentation using design templates; modifying a presentation using PowerPoint objects, color schemes and backgrounds; enhancing a presentation using Clip Art, graphics, sound, slide transitions and animations. You will also be taught how to operate the LCD projector and connect it to a computer, which will be helpful to you if you plan on using your laptop in the classroom.
Uncover the Hidden Potential of MS Word:
This workshop will begin with an explanation of how to use the fundamentals of Microsoft’s word processing software, MS Word. You will become familiar with MS Word’s menus and toolbars; and learn how to create, edit, format, save, retrieve and print documents. This workshop also teaches you the more sophisticated features and tools specific to MS Word such as innovative ways to edit and format text; become acquainted with the different methods for creating tables and charts; and learn to create links to the Internet, create links to files, add WordArt to your document, and more.
Special Topic—
During this workshop, you will learn how to grade your students’ papers in electronic format using the Track Changes feature. This will allow you to mark up a document, and give it the look of a graded paper with comments, suggestions and questions.
Learn the Essentials of MS Excel:
The primary uses and functionality of Microsoft’s Excel
spreadsheet software will serve as the theme for this workshop. You will be taught how to plan and build
your own spreadsheets, construct formulas and functions of both the simple and
complex nature, build graphs, design web links into worksheets, save and print
workbooks, and other data manipulation techniques.
Special Topic—
Create a grade book for each of your classes in this workshop. You will be shown how to design a worksheet of text and formulas that will allow you to keep track of all of your students’ grades in one compact location.
Optimize Your Internet Skills:
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of Internet usage. You will learn how to effectively "surf" and "search" the World Wide Web, become familiar with Internet terminology, create favorites (a.k.a. bookmarks) and keep them organized, examine the features of both the Netscape and Internet Explorer web browsers, handle downloading files, and learn the various ways to take advantage of the Internet’s multimedia content.. A special focus will be placed on efficient techniques for using search engines and identifying whether a website is legitimate.
Windows XP File Management
and Data Backup:
In this workshop you will gain extensive knowledge of key file management concepts that will allow you to use the Windows XP operating system with efficiency. Basic topics such as filenames, file extensions, shortcuts, folders, directories and paths will be taught. There will also be an emphasis placed on Windows Explorer, which will assist you in understanding where and how your computer files are stored and organized. Other highlights in this workshop will include a lesson on using system tools that can assist you in troubleshooting and optimizing the performance of your computer, and examining the various options available to you for backing up your data files.
Web Page Design with MS Front Page:
The purpose of this workshop is to explain the essential elements of Microsoft’s Front Page web design software. You will become familiar with the key functionality of the Front Page toolbar, as well as learn how to plan and create your own web pages. Other key topics that will also be covered are: the design of web links, the addition of graphics to web pages, and the migration of your work into WebCampus (Blackboard).
Fundamentals of WebCampus:
Fairleigh Dickinson University’s WebCampus uses the Blackboard Learning System™ for the delivery of online and blended courses. Blackboard provides content management and sharing, online assessments, student tracking, assignments, portfolio management, and virtual collaboration. In this workshop you will be introduced to these learning tools and initiate the thought process for your own course development. You will be taught instructional design and offered guidance for your pedagogical approach regarding online courses.

In this workshop you will continue your training in WebCampus’ Blackboard Learning System™. You will explore the Control Panel which allows you to add, edit, and remove material in your course. As you begin to build your course, you will receive instructional design assistance and pedagogical guidance specific to your own course. It is strongly recommended that you bring your course materials in an electronic format.

The focus of this workshop is solely on assessment tools in WebCampus’
Blackboard Learning System™. These tools include the Test Manager, Grade Book and
Assignment Manager. Whether you are creating a test, quiz, self assessment, or
survey; WebCampus provides a variety of question formats that will be taught to
you through the Test Manager. You will
learn how to use the Grade Book which manages all aspects of students’ grades
including display settings and options, weighting, and downloads and uploads as
well as learn how to use of the Assignment Manager for submission and review of
your students’ work.
