ITV Classrooms – Procedures for semester long courses.

  • Proposing a course for ITV delivery. Instructors, Chairs, or Directors may propose a course for ITV delivery after receiving approval from the relevant Chair, Director, or Dean. ITV courses are proposed at least one full semester in advance of the start date for the course.

  • Requesting the ITV room(s) for a course. Requesting the ITV room(s) for a course. You must fill out a form requesting the ITV room, alpha.fdu.edu/edtech/itv/itvform.htm at least one month prior to the deadline for publication in the course booklet for the term in which you will be using ITV. The form will ask you to identify the day(s) and time(s) when you wish to meet, and to identify several key criteria that will help us prioritize your request.
  • Connection with non-FDU sites. Connection with non-FDU sites. If your class requires connection with a non-FDU site, you must book the room for the half hour prior to the start time of your class. This is to allow sufficient time for our personnel to set up complicated off-site connections. You should also arrange to have an ITV technician available at the remote site during the entire class, in order to re-establish a connection if it is lost during your course. The Office of Educational Technology cannot take responsibility for lost class time due to technical failures at remote sites. Please note that connection to non-FDU sites often incurs substantial telephone charges, which will be billed back to the host department.

  • ITV scheduling conflicts. If more than one instructor requests the use of the ITV room for the same time slot for a given term, instructors teaching the two courses are asked to negotiate re-scheduling of one of the classes. If neither class can be moved, priority will be given to the course meeting the greater number of the following criteria: prior experience of the instructor with ITV; the potential to generate significant new tuition or other revenues for the University; cost-effectiveness, including the potential for more effective and efficient deployment of faculty resources; combining students at two or more ITV sites supplies or exceeds the minimum enrollment required to run a section; ITV delivery makes possible an innovative integration of multimedia or other computer technology into the curriculum; ITV delivery enables the University to provide continuing education for underserved segments of the community; ITV delivery significantly enhances the University's public image and reputation or otherwise supports the mission of the University. If the two courses are generally comparable in the above areas, or if the instructors disagree about the application of the above criteria, the ITV resource will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. It is also sometimes possible to use the ITV rooms at neighboring facilities, but a charge will generally be incurred which must be paid by the department or college sponsoring the course. If an amicable solution cannot be reached, appeals may be made to the relevant Campus Provost(s).
  • Videotaping ITV classroom activities. Individual instructors may request that their ITV classes be videotaped for their own review or to provide a record of the class to students who may have missed a session. To request that a videotape be made of a specific class session, contact the Office of Educational Technology at least one week prior to the class session to be videotaped. The instructor must provide a blank videotape. If copies are needed the instructor must make independent arrangements to have the videotapes copied, as the Office of Educational Technology does not have the equipment necessary to copy videotapes. Videotapes may be placed on reserve in the University library or may be distributed to students at the discretion of the instructor. For any purpose other than individual instructor review, the instructor must ensure that all individuals in all ITV rooms visible on the videotape have signed a photographic release allowing their image to be used for this purpose.
  • Cancellation policy. If you must cancel a class, please let the Office of Educational Technology know as soon as possible, and at least one full business day prior to your class. Instructors who cancel more than two class sessions without notifying the Office of Educational Technology will not be allowed to book the ITV room for future courses.

ITV Classrooms – Food & Drink Policy.

The ITV classrooms contain sensitive and expensive equipment that could easily be  damaged by spilled drinks or contamination by food particles. Also, the rooms do not receive regularly scheduled janitorial service. For these reasons:
  • No food or drinks is allowed under any circumstances in the ITV classroom. Sealed containers are allowed provided that the container is not opened at any time while in the ITV classroom. If you are observed with food or drink you will be asked to remove this item from the ITV classroom.

  • Instructors are asked to enforce the no food or drink policy with the students in their classes. If members of a given class repeatedly violates this policy, the instructor will not be permitted to schedule the ITV classroom for future classes.
