"Why are Fairleigh Dickinson University students enrolled in distance learning courses?"

Beginning with the freshmen class of 2001, FDU students began participating in FDU's Distance Learning Intitiative. At FDU, our mission is to prepare global citizens who can function and succeed across cultures and environments in an increasingly interdependent world. We also view the Internet as a fundamental learning, research, communications and collaboration tool for global citizens.

  • Our distance learning requirement has evolved from a new view and vision of the purpose of the university - we view the Internet as a fundamental learning, research, and communications tool for global citizens. It is a transforming communications tool because it can instantly link individuals almost anywhere in the world. It is a transforming information tool because we can find more information in a few hours working at our computer than we could 10 years ago through a week at a traditional library. It is a transforming learning tool because it can organize and present information and ideas in a new way and can provide resources typically unavailable to the classroom.

WebCampus is where this vision becomes real. It is where you participate in fully on-line or web-enhanced courses, and meet our distinguished Global Virtual Faculty members. It is where you begin the journey towards global citizenship.
