Florham-Madison Campus Library

Circulation

Borrower Responsibility

  • University students, faculty, staff and alumni - with appropriate FDU identification - may borrow circulating materials from the library.
  • The FDU identification card, with a library barcode affixed to it, serves as library card.
  • A student ID-card must bear a current FDU registration sticker as well.
  • An FDU ID-card is not transferrable and may be used only by the person identified on the card.
  • Circulating materials may be charged at the circulation desk during library hours until fifteen minutes before the library closes.
  • Since all items charged to a library card become the responsibility of the corresponding borrower, any loss of ID-card or change of address should be reported, as soon as possible, to the circulation desk.
  • Borrowed materials should be returned by their due date to the circulation desk or--if the library is closed--deposited into the book return bin just outside the library entrance. (Receipts for returned materials, if needed, may be obtained at the circulation desk.)

Fines

  • As a courtesy, the library mails reminder notices for overdue, lost, or recalled materials. Nevertheless, all fines incurred remain the borrower's responsibilty, whether or not a reminder was received!
  • Overdue fines accrue at 20 cents per book per day.
Lost or Damaged Materials:
  • If library materials are damaged while borrowed, the borrower responsible is billed for the cost of repairs.
  • A borrower responsible for materials that are lost or cannot be repaired, is billed for their replacement plus processing fees.
  • All lost or damaged materials remain the property of FDU Library.
  • Any items discovered in disrepair should be brought to the attention of the circulation staff before being checked out of the library.
Questions:
  • Billing inquiries should be directed to the head of the circulation department.
  • After 4 weeks, unpaid fines or unresolved issues regarding fines are forwarded to the bursar's office.
  • The University may withhold registration, transfer of credits, grades, and graduation, until all library fines are paid.
