At the College at Florham the FDU library houses more than 144,000 book titles as well as some 2,800 current and earlier newspapers and periodicals. The non-circulating collections include the Douglas Lloyd Kahn Collection on the History of Film and Photography, the Black Literature Collection, and the Loyd Haberly Collection of Fine Printing. To view recent acquisitions to the collection, click here.
The Library primarily serves the University community, yet is open to other individuals engaged in research. Through cooperative arrangements with neighboring institutions (College of St. Elizabeth, Drew University, the public libraries of the area, Macculloch Hall Museum, the Morris County Library and special libraries within the county), books and other circulating materials may be shared.
A user needing special library materials can access library holdings throughout the country through databases including OCLC (worldCAT) and our own university -wide online catalog, Coolcat.
The library building occupies the site of the greenhouses of the former Vanderbilt- Twombly estate. The large reading room at the front of the building, the Orangerie, once held tropical plants, and is all that remains of the original greenhouse- orangerie complex. The Orangerie, designed by McKim, Mead and White, faces the Mansion across a wide expanse of lawn which is part of the larger Frederick Law Olmsted- designed grounds.
