The University Libraries, Office of Educational Technology, and the Office of Information Resources and Technology are pleased to announce the new “Library Laptop Loaner” program available through the University Libraries starting immediately. Five laptop computers will be available in each library for you to use on a temporary basis inside the library building. All students, staff, alumni, and part-time faculty are eligible to participate in the laptop loaner program.
Here’s how it works:
1. You may check a laptop out at the circulation desk of Weiner Library at the Metropolitan Campus, or at the Instructional Media Center in the library at the College at Florham. To do so, you must provide your University identification card and a credit card. The credit card number will be taken in the remote chance that the laptop is damaged or stolen and you are determined to be “negligent” in your care of the laptop, in which case you may be held responsible for a portion of the costs of recovery, replacement, or repair. If you return the laptop in sound condition the credit card slip will be returned to you or destroyed.
2. You may use the laptop inside the library for up to two hours. You may be charged $25 if the laptop is returned late. If nobody else is waiting to use the laptop, you may check it out again for another two-hour interval.
3. The laptop computer may NOT leave the library. The laptops will set off the library alarms if taken out of the building.
4. Because this is a “pilot” or test program, when you return the laptop, you may be asked to fill out a survey. The survey will help us determine any changes that need to be made to the loaner program.
5. Full-time faculty are not eligible to participate in this program, as all full-time faculty already have laptops provided by the University. More information will be available at the University Library Circulation Desks.
If you have any other questions please feel free to call Manish Wadhwa in the Office of Educational Technology (x7060, Metropolitan Campus), or Lisa Stadler from the Office of Information Resources and Technology (x8689, College at Florham).
