Box Score

Teaneck, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell by a score of 16-1, at the hands of visiting St. John’s this afternoon.  The Red Storm collected 20 hits, including five home runs, and held the Knights’ offense to just five hits. Leftfielder Anthony DeRosa (Salem, N.H.) and centerfielder Charles Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y.) each went 4-for-5 with a home run to lead the St. John’s offense.  DeRosa knocked in three on the day and Bilezikjian drove in two. Five different players collected hits for the Knights. Fairleigh Dickinson fell to 1-5 on the year, while St. John’s improved to 3-8 overall.

St. John’s opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning, getting an RBI double from Jason Kane (Rutherford, N.J.) and a sacrifice fly from Chad Cambra (Taunton, Mass.) to build a 2-0 lead.  They added two more in the second inning on DeRosa’s round-tripper and another in the third on a solo shot by Jeremy Winter (Cliffside Park, N.J.).

Fairleigh Dickinson cut the deficit to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on Jesse Thomas’ (Ventnor, N.J.) first home run of the season, but the Red Storm got it right back in the fifth on a solo homer off the bat of Kane.  St. John’s got two more in the seventh to stretch the lead to 8-1 and took advantage of three Fairleigh Dickinson errors in the eighth, which led to eight runs for the final margin of 16-1.

Red Storm starter Brian Dorsey (Smithtown, N.Y.) notched his first win (1-1) of the season as he tossed five innings, giving up one run on four hits and fanning three.  Brian Bunyan (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) suffered the loss (1-1) for the Knights.

Fairleigh Dickinson will head south for a six-game road trip in Bradenton, Florida, beginning Saturday, March 16th against Indiana at 2:30 p.m.
