Vermont
Squeaks by FDU Baseball in Extra Innings, 2-1 Bradenton,
Fla.
– Freshman pitcher Adam Vogel (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave the
Knights their best outing of the year, but it wasn’t enough as the
Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision in
11 innings to Vermont in the last of a five-game Florida trip.
Vogel went seven and one-third innings, allowed just one
run on five hits, walked none and struck out three.
The Catamounts (3-6) got the
11th inning rally going on two infield errors by the Knights
(1-10) to lead it off. After
reliever Scott Barchetto (Paramus, N.J.) got the next two batters
to fly out, Derek Root drove home Ray Montanez with the winning run on a
single to left field.
The Knights struck first in
the top of the first inning on a Jesse Thomas (Ventnor, N.J.)
double which knocked in Travis Alderman (Flanders, N.J.) who led
it off with a single and stole second. Vermont tied the contest up at
1-1 in the eighth, getting their only run off Vogel on an RBI
single by Kevin Root.
Thomas went 3-for-4 on
the day for the Knights, while Andrew Parise (Allendale, N.J.), Lenny
Armenti (Bloomfield, N.J.) and Joe Munda (Glen Head, N.Y.)
each went 2-for-5.
The Knights will return to
action on Saturday, March 23rd, when they open up the
Northeast Conference (NEC) schedule at home with a doubleheader against
Wagner at 12:00 p.m.
