Heart Sweeps Knights, 8-3, 8-4
BRIDGEPORT, Conn., April 10, 2002 - Sacred Heart University swept a doubleheader from the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team on Wednesday, 8-3 and 8-4, at Harbor Yard. The opener was the completion of the April 3 suspended game in Teaneck, N.J. The Pioneers improved to 11-17 overall and 5-7 in the NEC. FDU stands at 3-20 and 2-10.Resuming the suspended game with a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning, Sacred Heart immediately struck for three runs on a pair of walks, Matt Nemeth's (Fr., Denville, NJ) RBI single and Rob Andrews' (Soph., Catskill, NY) two-run hit. First baseman Pat Geroni (Sr., Pt. Pleasant, NJ) accounted for the Knights' early runs with a two-run homer.Freshman righthander Rob Duell (Scotia, NY) picked up the win with four innings of one-run, three-hit relief, striking out five and walking one.In the nightcap, lefthander Chuck Ristano (Soph., Valley Stream, NY) struck out 11 Knights over eight innings to earn his second win in four decisions. He permitted five hits and four runs, one of which was unearned.Geroni, who had two of the Knights' seven hits, singled home a pair of runs in the third. Joe Munda (Glenhead, N.Y.) also drove in a run for FDU with a fielder's choice in the ninth.Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action this weekend with a three game series at UMBC. The Knights will play a doubleheader with the Retrievers on Saturday, April 13th and a single game on Sunday, April 14th.
