Hamden,
Conn. – Sophomore Gregg
Pleeter (Spring Valley, N.Y.) and freshman Adam Vogel
(Cincinnati, Ohio) combined on a seven-inning two-hitter to help the
Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team defeat host Quinnipiac (7-22, 5-11
NEC) by a score of 5-1, this afternoon. The victory snapped a nine-game losing streak by the Knights
(4-24, 3-13 NEC). Game two
of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
The two teams will now play a doubleheader tomorrow at noon, with
the seven-inning contest followed by the scheduled nine-inning game.
Pleeter (1-6) notched his first collegiate win as he
allowed just two hits and one unearned run in 5.2 innings of work.
Vogel picked up his first collegiate save with 1.2 innings
of no-hit relief, while fanning three and walking one.
Dave Bennett (2-5) suffered the loss for Quinnipiac.
The Knights gave Pleeter all of the support he would need
in the second inning. Designated
hitter A.J. DiMichele (Centereach, N.Y.) laced a two-out, full
count, bases-clearing double that plated three runs in the frame.
Fairleigh Dickinson added single runs in the fourth and sixth
innings to pull ahead 5-0.
Quinnipiac took advantage of an error in the sixth to trim the
lead to 5-1. After loading
the bases, Pleeter gave way to Vogel who struck out two
straight to end the threat and closed the door in the seventh.
DiMichele also had a single in the game to finish 2-for-4.
Junior left fielder Lenny Armenti (Bloomfield, N.J.) also
went 2-for-3 for the Knights.
