C.W. Post Takes FDU Baseball, 8-2
Matt Nugent goes 2-for-4 to stretch hit streak to 11 straight.

Box Score

Brookville, N.Y. – Junior catcher Matt Nugent (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a double to stretch his hit streak to 11 straight games, but it wasn’t enough as the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team fell 8-2, to host C.W. Post in a non-conference game this afternoon.  The Knights’ record dropped to 6-26 overall, while C.W. Post improved to 8-28-1.

Joe Esposito’s lead-off walk in the bottom of the eighth sparked a six-run explosion by C.W. Post to break open a 2-2 game.  Joe Grillo drove in the game winning run with a double, after Esposito walked and advanced to second on a passed ball.  Grillo was then joined on base by Kevin Ryan who was hit by a pitch.  Greg Annino followed with a double off the left center field wall, driving in Grillo.  Tim O’Sullivan then crushed a three-run homer over the left center field fence to provide a five-run cushio for Mark Suchowiecki who went the distance for C.W. Post.

The Knights struck first in the top of the first inning, getting an RBI single from Pat Geroni (Point Pleasant, N.J.)  After a scoreless second inning, FDU built a 2-0 lead with another run in the third. Tom McLaughlin (Glendora, N.J.) reached on an error and advanced to third on another error.  He then scored on an attempted double steal.

C.W. Post got a pair of runs in the sixth to knot the game at 2-2.  Ryan doubled home Grillo who had walked earlier in the inning and Annino followed with another double to plate Grillo.

Adam Vogel (Cincinnati, Ohio) went six innings as the starter for the Knights and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits and struck out two.  Geroni finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Knights return to action this weekend when they host NEC foe St. Francis (NY) in a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and a single game at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
