Baseball Falls to St. Francis (NY), 6-4 Teaneck,
N.J. – St. Francis
(NY) rallied for two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to defeat
the Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team 6-4 in a Northeast
Conference game on Monday afternoon.
The Knights fell to 6-29 overall and 4-17 in NEC action, while
the Terriers improved to 18-17 overall and 14-7 in NEC play.
The Knights led 4-3 heading into the top of the seventh, but the
Terriers took advantage of an error to score twice.
With one out, left fielder Mike Molinini (Staten Island, N.Y.)
doubled off the center field fence.
Designated hitter Anthony Esposito (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
followed with a single to right that got by right fielder Nick
Trincellita (Hoboken, N.J.) allowing Molinini to score and Esposito
to advance to third. Two
batters later Steve Iannuccili (Staten Island, N.Y.) knocked in Molinini
for what turned out to be the game winner with a single to right field.
The Terriers added another in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Jesse
Boles (Maplewood, N.J.)
St. Francis got on the board first with a run in the top of the
third inning. Molinini singled up the middle with two outs, driving
in Greg Colonna (Staten Island, N.Y.) who reached on a
fielder’s choice.
The Knights answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
With one out Tom McLaughlin (Glendora, N.J.) singled to
center field and Lenny Armenti (Bloomfield, N.J.) followed with a
single to right, moving McLaughlin to third.
After Jesse Thomas (Ventnor, N.J.) struck out, the Knights
pulled off a double steal to plate the first run. First baseman Pat
Geroni (Pt. Pleasant, N.J.) singled to left, advancing Armenti
to third. Matt Nugent
(Staten Island, N.Y.) then doubled to knock in Armenti and Trincellita
singled home Geroni to give the Knights a 3-1 lead.
Terriers’ catcher Ron Scrimenti (Middle Village, N.Y.)
led the fourth off with a home run down the left field line to cut the
lead to 3-2. The Terriers
knotted the game at 3-3 as they took advantage of an infield error,
before the Knights regained the lead at 4-3, on an RBI by Armenti in
the bottom of the inning.
Molinini went 3-for-4 on the day for the Terriers with one
run batted in and Anthony Giudice (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went 3-for-5.
Right-hander Ray Peterson (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the
win in relief for St. Francis, going 4.2 innings, fanning two and
allowing no runs on two hits.
Four Knights collected two hits in the game. McLaughlin
went 2-for-4, while Trincellita and Travis Alderman (Flanders,
N.J.) each went 2-for-5. A.J. DiMichele (Centereach, N.Y.) was 2-for-2 with a
pair of singles.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday, April 30, when they host
C.W. Post in a non-conference game at 3:30 p.m.
