St.
Peter’s Hands Fairleigh Dickinson Baseball 7-5 Defeat Teaneck,
N.J. – First
baseman Pat Geroni (Pt. Pleasant, N.J.) went 4-for-5 with a home
run, a double and two runs batted in, but it wasn’t enough as the
Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped a 7-5 decision at the hands of
visiting St. Peter’s on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights’ record dropped to 6-31 overall.
Left fielder Jesse Lewandowski (Bayonne, N.J.) went
3-for-5 with a home run for the Peacocks, who improved to 9-23.
St. Peter’s struck first, getting two runs in the top of the
second inning on a run scoring single by first baseman Jason Garcia
(W. New York, N.J.) and a sacrifice fly from catcher Mark Ortiz
(W. New York, N.J.). The
Knights came back with a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI
single off the bat of third baseman Nick Trincellita (Hoboken, N.J.)
to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Peacocks got the run right back in the third on Lewandowski’s
round tripper over the left centerfield fence to go back up by a pair at
3-1. Fairleigh Dickinson cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the frame,
getting an RBI single from right fielder A.J. DiMichele (Centereach,
N.Y.), but the Peacocks responded with a run in the fourth, two in
the fifth and one in the sixth to build a 7-2 advantage.
The Knights trimmed the lead to 7-4 in the seventh as they got a
double from Geroni to score one and a run scoring ground out from
catcher Matt Nugent (Staten Island, N.Y.)
They would get one more in the ninth on Geroni’s lead
off solo shot, but Peacock reliever Dan Burdick (Linden, N.J.)
set down the next three Knights to end the game.
Dan Cainas (W. New York, N.J.) tossed the first five
innings, scattered nine hits, struck out four and allowed two earned
runs to improve to 2-2 on the year.
Designated hitter Russ Rinaldi (Paramus, N.J.) went
3-for-5 with a run batted in for the Peacocks.
Fairleigh Dickinson collected 13 hits on the day.
Lenny Armenti (Bloomfield, N.J.), Rob Cicarini (Dumont,
N.J.) and Nugent each had a pair of hits.
The Knights return to action this weekend when they play at Long
Island for a three-game NEC series.
They will play a doubleheader at 12 p.m. on Saturday and a single
game at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
