Cathleen Ferris Earns Spot at 2001 NCAA Fencing Championships

Sophomore sabre fencer Cathleen Ferris, a 2000 NCAA Championship participant, will be participating in the 2001 NCAA Fencing Championships, to be held in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Twenty four athletes go to nationals with 22 of them receiving automatic qualifying bids from their Regional performance. Although Ferris has lost just 12 of 84 bouts this season, she had a disappointing showing at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. She was put in for an at-large bid. Twelve total at-large bids are made for the two spots at Nationals and Ferris was chosen.

Most likely due to her outstanding performance at the 2000 Championships, where, as a freshman, she finished 14th in the nation. With a career mark of 129-20 fencing sabre, Ferris owns a 92.1% winning percentage.
