Knights Compete at NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships
Orsi, Ferris and Helmer post top 15 finishes competing against nationally ranked teams

MADISON, NJ - Five athletes from the Fairleigh Dickinson University women’s fencing team competed at the 2002 Mid-Atlantic/South NCAA Regional Championships, held on the campus of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.  Four of the top ten teams in the nation, according to the USFA Coaches' National Poll, were competing at the championships.

Senior Sabina Orsi (Long Valley, NJ/W. Morris Central) and junior Cathleen Ferris (St. Louis, MO/John F. Kennedy) led the way for the Knights in the sabre division.  Orsi recorded the highest finish for the Knights this weekend with 13th place while Ferris was right behind in 14th place out of 25 sabre fencers.

Freshman Victoria Helmer (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) was the lone foil fencer for the Knights represented at the championships, finishing in 15th place out of 28 participants.

Epee freshman Kathleen Kolakowski (Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) fenced her way to a 20th place finish out of 31 competitors while sophomore Courtney Brennan (Centereach, NY/Centerreach) placed 27th.

The Knights are lead by head coach Roger Cummings in his first season at FDU.
