The ninth member of the induction class is former women's fencing coach EVELYN TERHUNE '54. Terhune served as FDU's Head Fencing Coach without compensation from 1958 through 1974. Three times she was selected as Coach of the Year by her peers and completed her tenure at FDU as the second-winningest coach in the team's history with a 105-16 (0.868) mark. Terhune coached the Knights to all three of the school's National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association Team Championships (1960, 1963 and 1969) while also leading two of FDU's four NIWFA Individual Foil Champions: Madeline Miyamoto (1960 and 1963) and Patricia Preziosi (1967). Terhune led the FDU fencing team to the 1960 Junior World Fencing Championships in Duisberg, West Germany ‹ the first time an American team had fenced in that competition. Her passion and her gift for the sport led Terhune to the Olympics in Rome in 1960 where she became the first FDU graduate to compete in the Olympic Games. |
