1999 Hall of Fame Inductee
Harvey Woods

Fairleigh Dickinson's first-ever Director of Athletics, HARVEY WOODS, is the third inductee in this year's class. Woods served FDU for 29 years, leading the athletics departments at the Teaneck-Hackensack campus as well as at Madison and Rutherford. Woods was responsible for leading FDU into the ECAC and NCAA and created the school's intercollegiate athletics programs. In his tenure, which was the longest of any AD at FDU, the men's soccer team made seven appearances in the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The first appearance, coming in 1961, was the school's first appearance ever in an NCAA Championship Tournament. While leading of the FDU athletics department, Woods also served as the Teaneck/Hackensack University's Head Baseball Coach. He stands second all-time on the Knights' coaching list with 226 victories and won 58 percent of his team's games over 18 season. Woods coached the Knights' diamondmen from 1951 through 1966 and then again for two seasons in 1978 and 1979. In his 18 years of coaching, Woods led the Knights to 15 winning seasons.
