The
second track and field standout inducted into the first Hall of Famer
class is CANDY YOUNG '86. A lightning-quick sprinter and hurdler, Young
was an eight-time All-American in her years at FDU. She dominated the
55-meter hurdles from 1983 through 1984, claiming back-to-back indoor
NCAA Championships in the event. During the outdoor competitive season
those years, she also dominated the 100-meter hurdles, but was the NCAA
Outdoor runner-up in both 1983 and 1984 in the event. Her blazing speed
over such a short distance earn her recognition in addition to All-American
honors, as she was named to the 1979 Pan-America team and was a member
of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team. While at FDU, Young also tied the World
Indoor Record for the 60-meter hurdles (7.37 seconds) and set the U.S.
Record in the 50-meter hurdles (6.85 seconds).
