January 19, 2002 Robert Morris Defeats Knights’ Men’s Basketball, 86-57 Fairfield,
Conn. – Tyler Bacon scored a game-high 26 points and Aaron Thomas added
21 points to lead Robert Morris University past Fairleigh Dickinson by a score
of 86-57, in Northeast Conference men’s basketball action this evening.
Matt Hammond (Burlington, N.J.) paced the Knights with 11 points
and six rebounds. Robert Morris improved to 6-11 overall and 5-3 in NEC play,
while the Knights fell to 2-15 overall and 2-6 in the NEC.
Bacon’s dunk with 5:09 remaining in the first half capped a 16-0 run
over a span of 4:50 to give the Colonials a 39-24 advantage.
Bacon went on to score 19 in the first frame to lead Robert Morris into
the break with a 47-31 lead and they didn’t look back from there.
The Knights had opened up the contest by building a 17-9 lead over the
first 3:48. They came out on
fire, hitting four three-pointers during that span, two by Marcus Whitaker
(Trenton, N.J.) who finished with nine points and five assists. They cooled off and Bacon heated up, scoring 10 points
in a 14-3 run that gave the Colonials their first lead of the game (23-20) with
11:26 remaining before halftime.
The second half belonged to Thomas who scored 15 of his points over the
final 18:33. Thomas finished
8-of-13 from the field and pulled down five rebounds. Bacon hit on 9-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-7 beyond
the arc, and also grabbed nine boards.
The Knights return to action on January 23rd when they travel
to Quinnipiac for a 7:00 p.m. contest. *
