Rallies Past Fairleigh Dickinson Men’s Basketball Box

– The Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s basketball team fell by a score
of 84-79, at Quinnipiac University this evening.
James Felton (Jersey City, N.J.) led four Knights in double
figures as he tied a season-high with 22 points.
Five Braves scored in double-digits, led by Bill Romano who scored 19
points and pulled down seven rebounds. The
Knights’ record fell to 2-16 overall and 2-7 in NEC play.
Quinnipiac improved to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the NEC.
Quinnipiac rallied from an eight-point deficit with 7:29 left to pull off
the comeback. Trailing 68-60, the
Braves ran off six straight points, four from Kason Mims and another layup from
Jeremy Bishop to pull within two at 68-66 with 6:26 to go.
A pair of free throws by Marcus Whitaker (Trenton, N.J.) put the
Knights back ahead by four at 70-66. After
layups by Romano tied the game at 70-70, Whitaker nailed a three to give
the Knights a 73-70 advantage with 4:27 left.
The Braves rallied again by going on a 12-4 run over the next
3:58 to take an 82-77 lead with 29 seconds showing on the clock.
Monroe keyed the spurt with a pair of three-pointers.
Matt Hammond (Burlington, N.J.) scored for the Knights with :18
left, but could pull no closer.
Fairleigh Dickinson took a 35-31 lead into halftime behind 11 first half
points from Felton and the Knights turned the ball over just three times.
Quinnipiac led by as many as nine in the first half at 21-12 with 7:21
left in the frame. The Knights
heated up at that point closing out the half by outscoring the Braves 23-10 to
close it out and got all of Felton’s 11 first half points over the final 6:24.
Felton hit on 7-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-4 from
three-point distance and sank 6-of-8 at the free throw line.
Hammond finished the game with 10 points, while Whitaker
chipped in 15 points. Ryshaun
Sunkins (North Brunswick, N.J.) gave the Knights nine points, four rebounds
and their only block in his first career start.
The Knights return to action this weekend at Mount St. Mary’s on
January 26th and at UMBC on January 28th. *
