Dickinson Men’s Basketball Falls to One World All-Stars 85-71 Teaneck,
N.J.
– Freshman center Doug Whitler (Detroit, Mich.) registered a
double-double for the Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s basketball team
with 23 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Knights fell to
the One World All-Stars by a score of 85-71 in exhibition play.
Kevin Simons, who played at UNLV, recorded a double-double for the
All-Stars with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Former
Villanova Wildcat Brian Lynch poured in 23 points and grabbed six boards.
Whitler poured in 12 points and pulled down six boards in the
first half as the Knights and All-Stars went into the break knotted at 40-40. Neither team could pull ahead by more than five points until
midway through the second half. The
All-Stars, up 58-57, with 11:57 to go in the contest, went on a 10-0 run, led by
five points from Sunshine Smith to distance themselves from the Knights.
Fairleigh Dickinson cut the deficit to three at 74-71 with 2:42 to go but
could pull no closer.
Senior Matt Hammond (Burlington, N.J.) was the other Knight in
double-figures as he scored 15 points. Sunshine
Smith finished with 16 points for the All-Stars.
The Knights will be in action again on November 14th, when
they open the regular season at the BCA Invitational, hosted by NC State in
Raleigh, N.C.
