Hammond posts third double-double with 12 points, 12 boards.

Box Score

New Britain, Conn. - Corsley Edwards scored 25 points and Ricardo Scott had 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, to lead Central Connecticut State University to a 90-62 win over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson University in a Northeast Conference men’s basketball game Thursday night.

Central Connecticut, 18-4 overall and in first place in the NEC with a 13-1 mark, held a 39-26 lead at the intermission. Central jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first nine minutes. Fairleigh Dickinson managed to get within four at 24-20 on a three-point play by junior Iman Mattox (Hayward, CA). That was as close at the Knights would get the rest of the evening. The Blue Devils held the Knights to just 30 percent shooting in the first half.

Edwards finished eight of nine from the field, and nine of ten from the free throw line. He also grabbed seven rebounds, had a pair of blocked shots and two steals.

Fairleigh Dickinson, which drops to 3-20 overall and 3-11 in the NEC, was led by senior center James Felton (Jersey City, N.J.) with 26 points. Senior forward Matt Hammond (Burlington, N.J.) added 12 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Despite the loss, FDU head coach Tom Green found some positives. “We came into the game being out rebounded by almost nine a game. I thought we rebounded well tonight and managed to out rebound the top team in the conference by three.”

The Knights return to action on Saturday, February 9th, when they host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m.
