Winston Smith

Assistant Director of Basketball Operations

Winston Smith joined the Knights’ staff in August of 2001 after a fine career of his own at the University of Massachusetts. In his position he will be responsible for overall player development, scouting, game-tape breakdwon, film exchange and conditioning.

Smith was a four-year letter-winner with the Minutemen. He was a two-year starter, as a freshman and a senior after returning from a torn ACL. As a senior he also served as team captain. Smith was a part of two NCAA Tournament bound teams (1998 and 1999) and one NIT team (2000). He garnered Academic Honor Roll honors as a freshman and earned his team’s award for best defensive player as a senior.

Smith comes from one of the top high school programs in the nation, St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth, N.J., coach by Kevin Boyle. He closed out his high school career by playing in the prestigious Capital Classic as a senior. During that year Smith averaged 18 points per game and 10 rebounds per game.

This summer Smith served as a counselor at several camps in the northeast, including the Eastern Invitational, Rutgers basketball camp, Fairleigh Dickinson University basketball camp and the Kevin Boyle basketball camp.   Smith is a 2001 graduate of UMass with a degree in Sociology. He currently resides in Summit, N.J.
