Fairleigh Dickinson Men's Soccer Ties Loyola 2-2 in Final Exhibition Game
Dirceu Hurtado scores both goals for Knights.

TEANECK, N.J. ­ The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against visiting Loyola (Md.) this afternoon at University Stadium. The contest consisted of two 45-minute periods and an additional 20-minute third period. Dirceu Hurtado (Totowa, N.J.) sparked the Knights' comeback with two third-period goals.

After a scoreless first frame, Loyola broke the ice in the 50th minute as Bill Law connected on a cross from the right corner by Juliano Adriano. Less than seven minutes later Adriano gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 advantage when he converted an indirect kick by Law from the right side.

The Knights began to put the pressure on late in the second period. They had a would-be goal by Jose Gomez (Cali, Colombia) nullified when he was called offsides and the second period ended with the Knights still down 2-0.

Seven minutes into the third period, Hurtado cut the deficit to 2-1, placing a penalty kick past Greyhound keeper Greg Peters. Five minutes later Hurtado took a touch pass from Gomez about 30-yards out and blasted it over the outstretched hands of Peters to give the Knights a 2-2 tie.

The Knights finished their exhibition schedule with a 5-2-1 record, including a 3-2 mark on their England tour. Fairleigh Dickinson will begin its regular season at the UConn-Nike Soccer Classic next weekend. The Knights will open up against nationally ranked Washington on Friday, August 31, at 5:00 p.m. They will then face Akron on Saturday, September 1, also at 5:00 p.m.
