Men's Soccer Downs Drexel, 3-2 in Overtime Teaneck, N.J. The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team (2-1-0) captured its second straight win, defeating the visiting Drexel Dragons (1-1-0) by a score of 3-2 in overtime this afternoon. Dirceu Hurtado's (Totowa, N.J.) acrobatic bicycle kick from 25 yards out and just 26 seconds into overtime snuck under the crossbar to stun the Dragons and the crowd of 225 in the Knights' home opener. "We felt we could be dangerous again," said head coach Seth Roland. "Today we struggled a bit, but came back and proved that we could be dangerous by scoring those two last goals." The Knights' first goal came off the foot of junior forward Aaron Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) who scored for the third straight match and gave his squad a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. Paye was the recipient of a nifty combination at the top of the box by Hurtado and senior midfielder Danny Lozano (Bogotá, Colombia). Fairleigh Dickinson held the one goal advantage until the 56th minute when Daniel Zajac picked up a ball in the middle and found the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1. The Dragons added another goal in the 75th minute as Jim Costello converted a pass from Zajac. The Knights quickly struck back in the 78th minute as Paye scored his fourth goal of the season, going around a defender after a combination feed by Lozano and freshman midfielder Joe DiBuono (Montreal, Canada). Both teams had a couple of more chances in the closing minutes but could not convert and the game headed for overtime. Hurtado, a junior forward, quickly put an end to the contest as he picked a pass out of mid-air by junior midfielder Johnny David (Hillside, N.J.) and the bicycle kick went over the Drexel keeper's hands and under the crossbar just 34 seconds in. "It's a good feeling," said Hurtado of the goal. "I felt I was going to do something like that today." Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action on Sunday, September 9 at Long Island University in the team's Northeast Conference (NEC) opener at 1:00 p.m. The Knights will play seven straight road games before returning home on October 5, when they host NEC rival UMBC at 4:00 p.m. * * * KNIGHTS * * *
