William
& Mary Defeats Fairleigh Dickinson Men’s Soccer, 3-1 Teaneck,
N.J.
– Junior forward Carlos Garcia scored twice in the second half to
lift the William & Mary Tribe (7-5-1) over Fairleigh Dickinson University
(7-6-1) by a score of 3-1 in men’s soccer action this afternoon.
Junior forward Aaron Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) scored his
eighth goal of the season for the Knights and sophomore midfielder Graham
Albert scored the Tribe’s first goal. Albert
put
William & Mary up 1-0 in the 22nd minute when he picked up a
loose ball in front of the Knights’ goal and found the back of the net.
Paye tied it up at 1-1 in the 35th minute as he
carried a long ball through four Tribe defenders and found the low left side
from 10 yards out. The
score remained knotted at 1-1 until the 50th minute when Garcia
scored his first goal of the game. Garcia
took a feed from sophomore midfielder Phillip Hucles and knocked
his shot off the left post and the ball rolled in over the goal line.
Less than six minutes later Garcia scored again on another touch by
Hucles to give the Tribe a 3-1 lead that would stand as the final score. The
Knights return to action on Tuesday, October 16, when they host Columbia at
3:30 p.m.
