Aaron
Paye’s 10th of the Season Gives Knights move to 5-2-0 in the NEC with fifth win in last six games. Teaneck,
N.J.
– Junior forward Aaron Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) scored his 10th
goal of the season with under seven minutes left in regulation to give the
Fairleigh Dickinson University (9-6-0, 5-2-0 NEC) men’s soccer team a 1-0
triumph over visiting Central Connecticut State (4-8-0, 1-5-0 NEC) this
afternoon. The win is the
Knights’ second straight, fifth in their last six games and fifth
consecutive league win. “I’m
pleased we found a way to win,” said Knights’ head coach Seth
Roland. “They give us a
difficult time every time we play. We
play two different styles and today we came out on top.” Both
teams had several scoring opportunities as shots were even at 13-13 for the
match. Fairleigh Dickinson
goalkeeper Vytautas Lenkutis (Vilnius, Lithuania) made five saves to
earn his fourth shutout of the year and ninth of his career.
His counterpart Jeff Brunetti also made five stops. The
ice was finally broken when Paye cut through the top of the box, took a
short feed from junior forward Dirceu Hurtado
(Totowa, N.J.) and placed his shot past Brunetti’s low right side for
what would be the game-winner in the 84th minute. The
Knights return to action on Sunday, October 21st, when they host
Quinnipiac in another key NEC matchup at 2:30 p.m.
