Fairleigh Dickinson Men’s Soccer Takes Quinnipiac, 3-1
Three players score to give Knights third straight 10-win season.

Teaneck, N.J. – Three different Knights scored goals to give the Fairleigh Dickinson University (10-6-0, 6-2-0 NEC) men’s soccer team a 3-1 win over visiting Quinnipiac (5-7-1, 2-4-1 NEC) this afternoon.  The Knights’ 10th win of the season gives the program three straight seasons of 10 wins or more and fourth in the last five years.

Quinnipiac opened up the scoring in the 27th minute as Everson Maciel connected on a direct kick from 25 yards out.  The Knights evened the score at 1-1 in the 43rd minute when junior midfielder Johnny David (Hillside, N.J.) found the back of the net off a feed from junior forward Dirceu Hurtado (Totowa, N.J.)

Five minutes and 33 seconds into the second half, junior back Taffarie Laing (Kingston, Jamaica) headed a corner kick by junior forward Aaron Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) to give the Knights a 2-1 advantage.  Fairleigh Dickinson got an insurance goal at the 84-minute mark. Senior midfielder Brian Romero (Paterson, N.J.) headed a goal kick by senior goalkeeper Vytautas Lenkutis (Vilnius, Lithuania) to Hurtado, who broke free and fired it past Braves’ keeper Kevin Kelley.

Lenkutis made five saves in goal for the Knights, while Kelley stopped two shots.  Quinnipiac out-shot the Knights, 17-10.

“Today we put together a championship effort,” said Knights’ head coach Seth Roland.  “They took it to us for 30 minutes and scored.  Instead of folding we stepped up and scored before the half.  We got another goal early in the second and played down a man for the final 26 minutes.  It was also great to see Dirceu get one today in his best effort of the season.”

The Knights, who have now won three straight and six of their last seven, return to action on Sunday, October 28th, when they travel to Sacred Heart for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
