Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Sacred Heart, 7-1
Hurtado explodes for three goals, Paye Scores twice in Knights’ fourth straight win.

Teaneck, N.J. – Junior forwards Dirceu Hurtado (Totowa, N.J.) and Aaron Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) combined for five goals and three assists to lead the Fairleigh Dickinson University (11-6-0, 7-2-0 NEC) men’s soccer team past Sacred Heart (3-12-2, 1-7-2 NEC) by a score of 7-1.  Hurtado scored three times and added one assist while Paye scored twice and had two assists. The seven-goal outburst by the Knights is the program’s highest scoring effort since an 8-0 win over St. Francis (PA) in 1989 and clinches a spot in the NEC Tournament.

The Knights wasted little time as they jumped ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute on Paye’s first of the game.  One minute and 17 seconds later Hurtado scored his first goal on a feed from junior midfielder Johnny David (Hillside, N.J.).  Sacred Heart got one back in the 20th minute, but Hurtado answered with his second goal of the contest a minute and 10 seconds later to give the Knights a 3-1 advantage that they held into the break.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored four more in the second half, getting goals from Johnny David (Hillside, N.J.), Paye’s second, Hurtado’s third and freshman midfielder Joe DiBuono’s (Montreal, Quebec) first collegiate goal to seal the win.

The Knights out-shot the Pioneers by a 28-9 margin.  Knights’ goalkeeper Vytautas Lenkutis (Vilnius, Lithuania) made five saves.  Sacred Heart goalkeeper Gustavo Reaes (Rio de Janerio, Brazil) made seven saves.

“We played very well today,” said Knights’ head coach Seth Roland. “I’m glad we’ve continued to keep it rolling and now we’re looking forward to our last home game next week and taking a shot at the regular season title.”

The Knights, who have now won four straight and seven of the last eight, will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 3rd, at home against St. Francis (NY).  Fairleigh Dickinson will honor its seniors prior to a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
