Aaron Paye and Vytautas Lenkutis Named All-American by Collegesoccernews.com
Paye earns third team honors, Lenkutis earns honorable mention.

TEANECK, N.J. –  The Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s soccer team added two more awards to their trophy case as Aaron Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) and Vytautas Lenkutis (Vilnius, Lithuania) earned All-American honors from Collegesoccernews.com.  Paye was named to the third team, while Lenkutis was named honorable mention.

Paye, a junior forward and third team All-America pick by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) and a first team All-NEC selection, led the league with 42 points and ranked second in points per game (1.75) and goals per game (0.71).  On the year, he also tallied five game-winners and recorded at least one point in five of the Knights’ six post-season games.

Lenkutis, a senior goalkeeper who also earned first team All-NEC honors, posted eight shutouts this year, led the NEC in save percentage (.849) and ranked second in goals against average (1.06).  Over the final seven games of the season he allowed just five goals and made 57 saves, including 27 in the last two games.

The Knights captured a second straight Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season title (sharing it with Robert Morris), a second straight NEC Tournament crown and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1989.  Fairleigh Dickinson made the most of that bid, advancing to the quarterfinals for only the third time in program history and first time since 1984.  With upsets of Boston College, 12th-ranked Princeton and Seton Hall in the first three rounds, the 2001 squad became the first team in program history to win three times in a NCAA Tournament.  They fell 3-2 in the quarterfinals to North Carolina, but not before taking the eventual NCAA Champion Tar Heels to triple-overtime.

The Knights finished the year with a 17-7-0 overall record and an 8-2-0 mark in NEC regular season play.  The 17 wins were the most by a Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team since the 1989 team won 17 games and stands as the fourth-highest win total in program history.  This year’s squad was the first NEC team to ever repeat as both regular season and tournament champions, and is also the only NEC team to ever win a game in the NCAA Tournament.
