Fairleigh Dickinson Men’s Soccer Announces 2002 Schedule
Princeton Tournament, Seton Hall and Northeastern highlight regular season slate.

Teaneck, N.J. Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s soccer head coach Seth Roland put together one of the most competitive schedules in recent memory last fall, which helped prepare his team for a Cinderella run to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.  Roland won’t let the Knights rest on their laurels as once again he has assembled some of the toughest competition in the Northeast for his 2002 schedule.  Along with their 10-game Northeast Conference (NEC) schedule, the Knights will face top-notch programs from conferences such as the Ivy League, the BIG EAST, America East and the Colonial Athletic Association.

Fairleigh Dickinson, which captured its second straight NEC regular season and tournament titles last year, finished 17-7 overall and was ranked 11th in the country after upsetting Boston College, Princeton and Seton Hall in the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament.  The Knights fell 3-2, to eventual national champion North Carolina in the quarterfinals, but not before taking the Tar Heels to triple overtime on their home field.

Highlighting this year’s 19-game regular season slate will be a pair of early-season tournaments.  The Knights will first open up against Maine and Northeastern in a tournament hosted by Quinnipiac on August 30th and September 1st.  After another non-conference game at Drexel on September 7th, they will open up their home and NEC schedule against Sacred Heart on September 10th, before getting a rematch with Princeton and another Ivy opponent, Pennsylvania, in a tournament hosted by Princeton on September 13th and 15th.

Along with their nine other NEC games, the Knights will also take on non-conference foes Delaware, Hartwick, Columbia and set up another rematch with Seton Hall.  The NEC Tournament will be hosted by UMBC on November 15th and 17th, where the Knights will be looking to capture their third straight NEC title and second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid.
