Dave Hedlund Graduate Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach Teaneck,
N.J. –
Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s soccer head coach Seth Roland
announced today that Dave Hedlund has been named graduate assistant
coach. Hedlund will be the
program’s primary goalkeeper coach and assist with administrative duties. “We’re
excited to have Dave as a member of our coaching staff,” said Roland,
the 2001 Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year. “He brings with him a wealth of
goalkeeper training experience and outstanding organizational and
administrative abilities.” Hedlund
joins the Knights’ staff after two years as an assistant coach at
Northeastern. In 2000, he
performed double duty with the Huskies, serving as the men and women’s
goalkeeper coach and as a volunteer assistant with both teams. This past fall
he remained as the goalkeeper coach for both teams and also became an
assistant coach for the men’s team. Hedlund
attended South Kingstown High School in Rhode Island and captained his team to
the Rhode Island Division 1A state title in 1992. He moved on to St. Olaf College in Minnesota where he earned
three letters. Hedlund
then began his coaching career in 1997 as an assistant coach at Park Center
High School in Minneapolis, Minn. and in his first year helped guide the squad
to the second round of the state divisional playoffs. In
1998, he moved to Kobe-City, Japan where he joined KRAC, a soccer club with
players from across the globe. There, he was part of a team that captured the
2nd Division League Championship and remained with the team until
the summer of 2000. During
the summer of 2001 and this upcoming summer, Hedlund will continue to
work as a camp administrator and staff coach for Tony DiCicco, former head
coach of the USA Women’s National team at his SoccerPlus Goalkeeper School
and Field Player Academy. Hedlund
is a 1997 graduate of St. Olaf College with a bachelor’s degree in history
and a teaching license for grades 7-12. The 26-year old native of Milwaukee,
Wisc., will be working towards a master’s degree in public administration.
