Dickinson Blanks
St. Francis-PA, 3-0 Loretto,
Pa. – Sophomore
Eugene Ferrara (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and juniors Aaron Paye
(Brooklyn Center, Minn.) and Eric Brandt (Spring, Tex) each
scored goals to lead the Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer
team (4-4-0, 1-2-0) past St. Francis (Pa.) (1-5-1, 0-1-0 NEC) by a score
of 3-0. Senior goalkeeper Vytautas
Lenkutis (Vilnius, Lithuania) posted his second shutout of the
season as the Knights captured their first NEC win of the year. “Today
we finished our opportunities,” said head coach Seth
Roland.
“We didn’t finish the other day against Robert Morris, but
today we were aggressive and put those opportunities away.” The
Knights got on the scoreboard in the 15th minute when Ferrara
blasted a shot from 25 yards out for his first tally of the season.
Paye scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season on
an assist by junior Dirceu Hurtado (Totowa, N.J.) in the 34th
minute and Brandt added another insurance goal in the 38th
minute, his first career score. Lenkutis
stopped seven shots for the Knights.
Red Flash netminder Joe Alianiello made five saves. “It
was a very solid effort overall,” said Roland.
“Vytautas played well and made a couple of big saves.
Eric Brandt gave us a strong presence in the back and defensively
we did well against a big team.” The
Knights return to action on September 26, when they take on intra-state
foe Seton Hall on the road at 3:00 p.m.
