Men's Tennis Opens 2001 Slate At ECAC Men's Open Championships
Freshman George Green advances to tile match at fourth singles in collegiate debut.

Mercer County Park, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's tennis team opened up the 2001 fall season at the ECAC Men's Open Championships this weekend.  Four Knights competed and freshman George Green (Leeds, England) made his collegiate debut in grad fashion.

Green made his debut in the fourth singles slot.  He won the first three matches of his career before falling in a close match in the championship round.  Green knocked off Pat Mulvaney of St. Joseph's, Dan Seward of Lafayette and Mike Helmuth of Moravian, all in straight sets, before being edged by number one seed Dan Selzer of Towson, 7-6 (5) and 7-5.

Also competing for the Knights were sophomore Alex Sarria (Cali, Colombia), senior Boris Bogdanov (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and David Wagreich (Old Bridge, N.J.)Sarria fell at number one singles to Tomas Ungari of Dowling in second round play after receiving a bye in round one as the number four seed. Bogdanov also received a bye as the number three seed in second singles, but dropped a three-set decision (6-4, 3-6, 2-6) to Vishal Varchese of Concordia.  Wagreich represented the Knights at third singles, falling 6-1, 6-1 to Cristano Borelli of Concordia.

The Knights return to action this weekend, September 28-30, when they take part in the Northeast Invitational, hosted by Brown.
