Fairleigh Dickinson University Places 10th Overall in Commissioner's Cup Standings
Men's programs take sixth, women finish 10th.

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Northeast Conference has announced its 2001-02 Commissioner's Cup standings. Fairleigh Dickinson University finished tenth overall and tenth for the women's cup, and finished sixth for the men's cup. UMBC placed first overall and in the women's standings and Monmouth took first for the men's.

On the men's side, the Knights were able to clinch a place in the top half of the standings with the great success of three of its teams.  In the fall, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team tied for first in the league with Robert Morris, as they went on a Cinderella run to the NCAA Elite Eight. The men's cross country team and the men's tennis team both finished their seasons in second place.

The Knights saw all but two women’s sports place between fourth and ninth.  Women's volleyball posted a 12-11 record, qualifying for the NEC tournament.  Women's basketball finished 14-14.  Women's soccer, softball, cross country, and track and field all improved their finishes in the NEC standings from last year.

The Commissioner's Cup was instituted during the 1986-87 season with Fairleigh Dickinson leading all schools with six championships.  Cup points are awarded in each NEC sponsored sport.  For men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, football, women's softball, women's field hockey, women's lacrosse and baseball, the final regular season standings are used to determine Cup points.  In all other sports, points are awarded based on the finish at NEC Championship events.
