Fairleigh Dickinson Athletics Director Steve Hurlbut Resigns
Hurlbut to take post as Associate Commissioner of Atlantic 10.

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson University Director of Athletics, Steve Hurlbut, announced today that he has resigned his post to take the position of Associate Commissioner for the Atlantic 10.
“I leave with very mixed feelings,” said Hurlbut. “While I’m very excited about the opportunity of the position with the Atlantic 10, it’s not easy to leave Fairleigh Dickinson.  I’ve had a great experience over the last four years here.  I believe that we’re entering into what will be looked at as a golden era in Fairleigh Dickinson athletics.  The commitment that the university has demonstrated over the past couple of years will begin to bear fruit almost immediately.”
Hurlbut was named Athletics Director on July 9, 1998. During his tenure he has been responsible for the management of the Knights’ 18-sport varsity program and the George and Phyllis Rothman Center.  He implemented the department’s first full-time academic support program and oversaw the formation of Fairleigh Dickinson’s Division I Athletics Hall of Fame. Hurlbut has carried out the additions of women’s soccer, softball and women’s bowling, and elevated a number of coaching positions to full-time status.  Highlighting his four years as Athletics Director was the men’s soccer team’s Cinderella run to the Elite Eight of the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
Hurlbut's main duties with the Atlantic 10 will be in the areas of scheduling and television. He will be responsible for the development of schedules for men's and women's basketball and football. He will also oversee the Atlantic 10 Television Network, which is syndicated throughout the Atlantic 10's geographic footprint. With the Network, he will serve as executive producer and be involved with everything from affiliate relations, production, talent, and crewing. He will also serve as the tournament manager of the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship.
