Saturday, January 19, 2002 Knights Compete at Fordham/St. John's InvitationalNEW YORK, NY -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Fordham/St. John's Classic, held in New York City's 168th Street Armory with several Knights posting personal bests. Fredyla Urena bested her personal record by seven seconds in the Mile, finishing in 5:18.72 which was good for fifth place. Melanie Porterfield posted the highest finish for the Knights, coming in second in the 60m hurdles in 9.21 seconds. She set her P.R. in the event during the preliminaries with a time of 9.15 seconds. Destiny Morris placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 5.04m (16'-6.5"). Ebony Ramos just missed scoring in the 500 meters, finishing in 10th in a time of 1:22.03. Dana White was the only Knight on the women's side to score in two events, coming in in fourth in the hurdles in 9.27 seconds and coming in sixth in the shot put 12.59m (41'-3.75"). The multi-talented freshman also ran the 200m in 27.16, just out of scoring range in 10th place. The men's squad was led by Aidan Walsh who won the 3000m in 8:24.87 while Duncan Bitok finished sixth in the event (8:41.74). Alfred Korir placed sixth in the Mile in 4:21.56 and Robert Rotich placed fourth in the 5000m (15:12.75). William Murphy was the only one to score in different events for the men's team: with a seventh place finish in the 60m hurdles and with an eighth place finish in the 200m (22.80).Eric Watson finished 10th in the 200m in 22.83 and ran a 51.71 in the 400 meters. Rene Mercado finished the 500m in 1:14.99 while David Henry ran the 60m dash in 7.57 seconds. Jeffrey Thacker was just behind in 7.95 seconds. |
