Erick
Too Finishes Middle of Pack at NCAA Championships
Two teammates earn All-East honors at IC4As
GREENVILLE,
SC –Fairleigh Dickinson University junior Erick Too (Eldoret, Kenya) ran
a 31:21 at the 2001 NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships, held today
at the Furman University Golf Course.
His time for the 10K race was good for 136th place out
of a field of 244 athletes. It was the second consecutive year the Knights
had an individual qualifier for the national meet.
Too was the
Knights’ top finisher in every race in 2001.
He qualified for nationals with an eighth place finish (30:51.75)
at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals held on November 10th in
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on the campus of Lehigh University.
While Too
prepared for his first national championship race, the rest of the men’s
squad competed at the IC4A Championships on Saturday, November 17th
at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, NY.
Aidan Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) earned his second consecutive
All-East honor, finishing the 5-mile race in 14th place
(25:38.60) and Robert Rotich (Kericho, Kenya) earned his first All-East
honor, finishing in 17th place (25:40.80). Duncan Bitok (Rift
Valley, Kenya) ran a 25:53.30, good for 29th and Alfred Korir (Kapsabet,
Kenya) finished in 26:01.00 (40th place).
Two
members of the women’s team competed at the ECAC Championships, also in
Van Cortlandt Park. Fredyla Urena (Fairview, NJ/Cliffside Park) and
Seeyian Metoyu (Illasit, Kenya) finished in 40th place
(19:44.90) and 61st place (20:04.90) respectively.
