Finish 5th, Women Finish 6th at NEC Championsips
Women post highest finish in three
seasons as Everlyn Cheptoo earns Outstanding Track Perfomer
EMMITSBURG, MD -- The
Fairleigh Dickinson men's and women's track teams competed at the NEC
Indoor Championships held at the Prince George County Track Complex. The
women's squad scored 62 points to place sixth, just five points out of
fourth while the men's team scored 56.5 points to finish fifth. Long
Island won their first women's title with 128 points while defending
champion St. Francis (PA) won the men's title with 158.5 points.
On
the women's side freshman Calicia Burke won the long jump with a
mark of 18'-1" while Everlyn Cheptoo earned Outstanding Female
Track Performer for her wins in the 3000m (10:22.47) and 5000m (18:03.64).
Burke also finished fourth in the 400m (58.80) and eighth in the
200m (26.05). Fredyla
Urena finished 5th in the Mile (5:16.59) and fifth in the 3000m
(10:29.09). Dana
White placed third in the shot put (41'-6,5"), Tia Wright
was third in the long jump (17'-10.75"), Melanie Porterfield
was sixth in the 60m hurdles (9.10) and Destiny Morris was seventh
in the triple jump (35'-2"). The
women's 4x400m of Burke, Porterfield, White and Morris
placed eighth (4:08.87).
The
men's squad was led by an individual title from Aidan Walsh who won
the mile in 4:09.74 and finished eighth in the 3000m (8:40.26). Alfred
Korir was fourth in the mile (4:16.93) and Duncan Bitok was
sixth (4:22.62). The three also competed in the 800m with Korir coming
in second (1:55.80), Bitok placing fourth (1:56.79) and Walsh
placing sixth (1:57.78). Robert Rotich was fifth in the 5000m
(14:53.76). William
Murphy finished third in the 200m (22.44) and fifth in the long jump
(21'-2"). The
Distance Medley Relay of Korir, Eric Watson, Bitok,
and Walsh finished in second (10:26.43).
Several
members of the team return to action at the ECAC and IC4A Championships,
March 2-3 in Boston, Massachusetts.
