Knights Successful at Columbia Open
Aidan Walsh wins 1500m, Destiny Morris improves season-bests in 200m, Long and Triple Jump

NEW YORK, NY -- The men's and women's track and field team competed at the Columbia Open, held at Wien Stadium on the northern tip of New York City.

Aidan Walsh highlighted the day with a personal best and winning time in the men's 1500m (3:48.10), qualifying him for IC4As. Erick Too was second in the 5,000m (14:36.33), one and one-half seconds away from qualifying for IC4As in that event. Alfred Korir placed third in the 800m (1:53.94) and seventh in the 1500m (3:54.70) while Duncan Bitok finished sixth in the 800m in 1:55.33. Rob Ferrara ran a personal best and team season-best in the 400m (50.46).

Destiny Morris set season bests in three events including the women's triple jump where she finished fourth with a leap of 11.16m (36-7.5) and the long jump where she finished eighth with a mark of 5.13m (18-0).  She also ran a 27.37 in the 200m. For the fourth straight meet Melanie Porterfield improved her 400m hurdle time, running a third-place 1:02.49. Everlyn Cheptoo finished third in the 1500m (4:46.24) while Tia Wright improved her outdoor long jump mark with a fourth place leap of 5.49m (18-0). Dana White finished second in the shot put (13.88m - 45-6.5) to round out the women's top five finishes.
