Saturday, October 27, 2001 Cross
Country Teams Compete at NEC Championships PITTSBURGH,
PA – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s and women’s
cross country teams competed on Saturday morning at Schenley Park in
Pittsburgh, PA at the Northeast Conference Championships. The men’s
team was voted pre-season favorite to win but could hold back St. Francis
(PA) who placed four runners in the top five and won with a score of 33 to
the Knights’ second-place 41 points. Erick Too (Eldoret, Kenya) was
the Knights’ top finisher, running a 25:45 for fourth place.
Aidan Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) finished in sixth in 25:57, Alfred
Korir (Kapsabet, Kenya) ran a 26:02 for 8th place, Robert
Rotich (Kericho, Kenya) came in two seconds later in 11th
(26:04) and Duncan Bitok (Rift Valley, Kenya) rounded out the five
in 26:09 for 12th place. All
five runners earned All-NEC honors. Monmouth
finished a distant third overall on the men’s side. Fredyla
Urena (Fairview, NJ/Cliffside Park) lead the Fairleigh Dickinson
women’s cross country squad and improved upon her 25th place
finish last year by cracking the top 20 in 18th place (19:18). Seeyian Metoyu (Illasit, Kenya) was the Knights’
next finisher in 64th place, running 20:59. The women repeated their 10th place finish from
2000 although this time improving 15 points. The
teams return to competition when they travel to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic
Regionals, held at Lehigh University on Saturday, November 10th. *
