Fairleigh Dickinson Wins Metropolitan Championships
Men win second consecutive title; women place 11th

Bronx, NY – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s cross country team won their second consecutive Metropolitan Championship title.  Leading the Knights and repeating his 2000 second-place performance was Erick Too (Eldoret, Kenya) who ran the 8K-course in 25:47.04.

Following Too was sophomore Alfred Korir (Kapsabet, Kenya), last year’s Northeast Conference Freshman of the Year, who placed sixth in a time of 26:39.42.  Senior Aidan Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) was just three seconds behind in seventh place (26:42.77), sophomore Robert Rotich (Kericho, Kenya) came in 11th in 27:01.61 and sophomore Duncan Bitok (Rift Valley, Kenya) was the Knights’ fifth finisher in 12th place (27:03.48).

Fairleigh Dickinson won with 38 points, edging out second-place Manhattan’s 49 points.  Rutgers was a distant third with 90 points. The last time the Knights won back-to-back Met titles was in 1993 and 1994.

The women’s squad was paced by Fredyla Urena (Fairview, NJ/Cliffside Park).  The team finished 11th of 15 teams.

The teams return to action on Thursday, October 11th for dual meets at Van Cortlandt Park hosted by Manhattan College.
