Country Teams Open at Monmouth Invitational MIDDLETOWN,
N.J. – The
Fairleigh Dickinson University cross country teams got their 2001 season
underway at the Monmouth Invitational this afternoon. The men's team posted an impressive second place finish,
ahead of all four other Northeast Conference schools that participated and
just 22 points behind winner Cornell.
The women's squad finished in 17th place out of 18
teams. In
the men's race three Knights finished in the top 10 out of 164
participants and all five scorers finished 16th or better.
Junior Erick Too (Eldoret, Kenya) led the Knights' effort
with a time of 26:05.9, good for third overall, just 37.5 seconds behind
the winner. Sophomore Robert
Rotich (Kericho, Kenya) and senior Aidan Walsh (Dublin, Ireland)
weren't too far behind, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Rotich posted a time of 26:18.8, while Walsh ran the race at
26:22.3. Also scoring for the Knights were sophomore Alfred Korir (Kapsabet,
Kenya) at 26:29.8 and sophomore Duncan Bitok (Rift Valley, Kenya)
at 27:06.5. Junior Fredyla
Urena (Fairview, N.J.) led Fairleigh Dickinson in the women's event,
finishing in 20:36.7. The
Knights will compete again on October 5th, when they take part
in the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. * * * KNIGHTS * * * |
