Fairleigh Dickinson Defeats Long Island in Straight Games
Kluemper nearly misses triple-double

Hackensack, NJ –The Fairleigh Dickinson University (10-9, 4-3 NEC) volleyball team defeated the visiting Long Island Blackbirds (7-21, 2-5 NEC) in a straight three-game Northeast Conference match.

The teams were point for point in game one until the Knights closed out from 24-23 by scoring six straight points, getting help from a few of the Blackbirds 14 attack errors in the opening game.  The Knights bolstered their offense in game two, hitting .390 as a team, but so did Long Island, and the teams continued the close battle until the Knights once again got six straight point to take a 23-15 advantage and eventually game two.  Fairleigh Dickinson would seemingly have an easier game three, scoring eight straight points to open. Long Island put on the pressure but could not come back as the Knights swept three games for their last home match of the season.

Senior co-captains Randi Kluemper (Allentown, PA) and Trisha Nunnenkamp (Merrick, NY), who shared a team-high nine kills apiece, were honored before the start of the match.  Kluemper, who served up an ace for the Knights’ match-point, almost tallied the first triple-double of her career, adding 33 assists and 11 digs to her nine kills.

Allison Picker (San Rafael, CA) had eight kills and seven blocks while Carli Kaminska (Clarence Center, NY) also had eight kills and added three blocks.

Mercy Ibok (El Paso, TX) led the Blackbirds with 14 kills and four blocks while Simone George (Wilmington, DE) had 13 kills and 13 digs.  Defensive specialist Loressa Berona (Buena Park, CA) posted a game-high 16 digs.

Fairleigh Dickinson travels to Quinnipiac on Saturday, November 10th for a 12pm match before returning to Connecticut the next day to face Central Conn. at 1pm for the Knights’ last regular season match of 2001.  The Knights seek to clinch a trip to the NEC Tournament held on Saturday, November 17 through Sunday, November 18th at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY.
