Fairleigh Dickinson Volleyball Finishes Third at Cornell Invitational
Sharon Becker Named to All Tournament Team.

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University volleyball team (3-5) split a pair of matches on day two of the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cornell University.  The Knights fell in four close games to eventual tournament champion Manhattan and then defeated fellow Northeast Conference school St. Francis (PA) in four games.

The Knights dropped the first two games versus Manhattan but rallied in game three, 35-33, before falling in the fourth game.  Sophomore Sharon Becker (Dumont, NJ/Paramus Catholic) led the attack, posting a team-high 16 kills with just three errors on 33 attempts.  She added six digs and two blocks in the effort.  Freshman Carli Kaminska (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) had 11 kills and seven digs and junior Allison Picker (San Rafael, CA/Marin Academy) tallied 10 kills, four digs and five assists.

Fairleigh Dickinson came back later in the day to defeat the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash.  The Knights took game one, slipped in game two and then sealed the victory with a convincing game three and four.  Becker had team-highs in 11 kills and 15 digs.  Three other Knights collected double-digit digs including senior setter Randi Kluemper (Allentown, PA/William Allen) who notched eight kills, four aces, and 34 assists in addition to her 10 digs.

The Knights complete the weekend with a 2-2 record and third place finish, having lost to Cornell and having defeated Stony Brook on day one of the invitational.  Manhattan swept its four matches to take first place, host Cornell came in second with a 3-1 record, Stony Brook finished 1-3 and St. Francis (PA) placed fifth with a 0-4 mark on the weekend.

The Knights will face the Manhattan Jaspers once again when Fairleigh Dickinson opens at home on Friday, September 28th for a 7:00 pm match.
