FDU Volleyball
10th in NCAA Statistics in Digs Per Game
Two athletes among 2001 national leaders
HACKENSACK, NJ
– The Fairleigh Dickinson women’s volleyball program finished 10th
in the nation for 2001 in digs per game while sophomore Sharon
Becker (Dumont, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and senior Trisha
Nunnenkamp (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) were both in the top 20
nationally in the category, as recently published in the NCAA
News.
Head coach Stacey
Recanati led the 2001 Knights’ volleyball program to a
successful 12-11 record, a 4th place finish in the
Northeast Conference and a 10th consecutive trip to the
NEC Tournament. Much of
the success was due to the Knights’ outstanding defense, which
finished 10th in the nation for 2001 in digs per game at
18.39.
Becker led the team in 2001—her first year of
competition—with 349 digs on the season.
Her 4.26 digs per game also was also tops in the NEC and was
good for 12th in the nation. Becker had a team
season-high 33 digs in a four-game win versus Sacred Heart.
Four-year letterwinner
and two-year co-captain Nunnenkamp finished her career this
past season second on the Knights’ all-time list with 1,509 career
digs. In a win over St. Francis (NY) in 2001, Nunnenkamp
posted a career-high 31 digs. Her career average of 4.01 digs per
game ranks in the top 25 all-time in the NCAA since 1986 when
statistics were first compiled. She also finished fourth on the
all-time kills list at Fairleigh Dickinson with 826.
